Heel Lead - HL - Ferse führt

Jan 15, 2014. I am quite sick. Luckily the sun is shining and a short walk is within my scope. What a wonderful coincidence that move 1 is Heel Lead, not e.g. Outward Punch!

Before I go, I read about HL in the  Nia Technique book, and I love the cue „Use the heel lead for walking freely and expressively“. And smile at „wag your tail to integrate the spine“. Off I go for my walk. The fun image of a long, soft tail (maybe like an Avatar) changes my gait and my posture. Effortlessly, my shoulders glide backward and down. My spine is upright and flexible. I breath with ease. What  a relief after all this coughing, sneezing and painful breathing. Wow!!This feels so good I that I never want to forget this image.„Do not the best things start with disease?“ - Novalis said. Sometimes I happened to misspell Heel Lead as Heal Lead. Now I know why.

Back home, I notice that I usually do not walk with HL in the apartment. Rather, I tend not to use my joints a lot. What a waste of time and joints! I find two reasons for that: 1) I often lack awareness when I walk only small distances 2) most of my „indoor shoes“ don’t really support HL. Barefoot is too cold for me in winter, especially now with my cold now. My husband gets me huge woolen boots (thank you!!). They look rather monstrous than elegant. But I can elegantly Heel Lead in them and feel great. No more excuses for lack of awareness!

By the way: in my perception,   sick and old people often do not use their (ankle) joints a lot, which, in many cases, seems to worsen their situation. Maybe one reason is they walk little and mostly indoors with improper shoes? I will choose to Heel Lead everywhere I go now - and pray I remember this for the rest of my life.

My everyday practice: „every step you take …“   at home, too!

Meine  Alltagspraxis: „every step you take …“ (gerne auch zum The Police song). Auch zu Hause!
